Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

Family Optometry wants every patient, including patients who use assistive technology, to be able to learn about our offices, read our eye-health resources, and request an appointment through this website. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Conformance status

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that most of the site meets the standard, and the parts that may not are listed under Known limitations below. We review and improve the site on an ongoing basis.

What we do for accessibility

  • Semantic HTML with a logical heading structure, landmarks, and a skip-to-content link on every page.
  • Full keyboard operability: navigation menus, the homepage carousel, forms, and the interactive eye diagram all work without a mouse.
  • Visible focus indicators on interactive controls.
  • A color palette checked against WCAG AA contrast ratios, for text on both light and dark backgrounds.
  • Reduced-motion support: animations and the auto-advancing carousel stop when your device requests reduced motion.
  • Text alternatives for images, and a plain-text version of the interactive eye diagram's content for screen readers and users without JavaScript.
  • Labeled form fields with clearly marked required fields.
  • A responsive layout that reflows at high zoom levels and on small screens, with no restrictions on pinch-to-zoom.
  • No auto-playing audio or video.

Known limitations

Despite our efforts, some parts of the experience may not yet be fully accessible:

  • Third-party services. The online booking pages (run by Adit, our scheduling partner), the patient portal, the contact-lens ordering service, and embedded Google Maps are operated by other companies and may not meet the same standard. Everything you can do through those services you can also do by phone: call any of our offices and we'll help directly.
  • Photographs. Some office and staff photographs may carry brief alternative text while we complete a content review.
  • Older content. Announcements or materials published before this statement may predate our current accessibility checks.

If any part of this website is difficult or impossible for you to use, we want to know, and we'll work with you to provide the information or service you need another way. We aim to respond within two business days.

How we assess this site

We assess accessibility through self-evaluation: automated testing tools (Google Lighthouse and axe) combined with manual keyboard-only navigation and screen-reader checks. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent review.

Compatibility

This website is built with standard HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with ARIA, and is designed to work with current versions of major browsers and common screen readers (such as NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver). It does not block zooming or scaling on any device.
